Safeguarding
How we keep pupils safe when we film in your school.
Our approach
Pupils’ safety comes first on every filming day. We work closely with each school, and we follow your safeguarding policies and procedures at all times.
Before filming, we agree a plan with you. It covers where we film, who joins us, and which pupils can appear on camera. On the day, a member of your staff stays with us throughout.
Enhanced DBS check
Adam Chetter holds an enhanced DBS certificate. He will show it to your staff before entering the main school building.
We sign in at reception, wear visitor identification, and are never left alone with pupils.
Consent and GDPR
We only film pupils who have permission to appear on camera. Your school holds this consent, so we rely on your records and guidance.
Before the day, we ask you to confirm which pupils must not be filmed. We treat this information as confidential, and use it only to plan the filming.
We handle all personal information in line with UK GDPR. We never ask for more detail than we need, and we never share it.
Pupils without photo or video consent
Some pupils cannot appear on camera, and there are many reasons for this. It may be for safeguarding, family or personal reasons. We never need to know why, and pupils are never singled out.
We work with your staff to keep these pupils out of shot. Common ways of doing this include:
- Your school identifying pupils discreetly, such as with a coloured lanyard or sticker
- A member of staff guiding us around groups and classrooms
- Planning shots and camera angles so those pupils are not in frame
- Filming small groups chosen by the school, rather than whole classes
If a pupil without consent appears by accident, we remove that footage during the edit. Where removing it is not possible, we blur the pupil so they cannot be identified.
Finally, your school watches and approves every film before it is published or shared.
How we store your footage
All footage is kept securely, so nothing is lost. Raw footage is kept on drives in our office, with a further backup held off site. Finished films are stored in Dropbox, which encrypts every file. Your footage is never shared with anyone outside the project.
Finished films are sent to your school through a private link. We only show your films on our own website or social media with your school’s written agreement.
If you would like your footage deleted, just ask. We will delete it and confirm once it is done.
Questions about safeguarding
If your safeguarding lead would like to talk anything through before filming, we are always happy to help. Call us on 07498 946 584, or email info@northerneducationvideos.co.uk.
